A promising test to distinguish between active tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis.

چکیده
A promising test to distinguish between active tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis As pointed out by the authors of the case report, the distinction between active tuberculosis (TB) and latent tuberculosis is impossible with the blood tests in conventional use. 1 Nevertheless what seems to show great promise is the use of host RNA expression profiles to distinguish between active and latent tuberculosis. In one study, the aim was to determine whether the microRNA profile of patients with active TB was distinct from that of patients with latent TB, and also different from the profile of healthy controls. The investigators focused on microRNAs that were differentially expressed between active and latent TB. The quantitative validation of microRNA expression yielded a significant (P < 0.01) difference between patients with active TB and counterparts with latent TB notwithstanding the fact that there was a certain degree of overlap between active TB and latent TB at the lowest values of relative microRNA expression. 2 There was no difference between the group with latent TB and the control group. A more momentous observation was the one based on a study which enrolled 2915 children from sub-Saharan Africa. In that study, a minimum of 42 microRNA transcripts were identified which were differentially expressed between active TB and latent TB. Using a complicated formula , a risk score for TB was then compiled from those transcripts and that formula was used to differentiate between active TB and latent TB. The risk score distinguished between active tuberculosis and latent TB with a sensitivity of 94% and a speci-ficity of 100%. متن کاملFrequency of Latent Tuberculosis Infection in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes referred to Shahid Rahimi Hospital in Khorramabad City with Tuberculin Skin Test in 2018-2020
Introduction: Tuberculosis is the leading cause of death from infectious diseases worldwide. Diabetes has been suggested as an important risk factor for tuberculosis. To date, few studies have examined the association between diabetes and tuberculosis. In this study, the prevalence of latent tuberculosis in diabetic patients was investigated. Methods: In this study, 195 patients with type 2 d...
متن کاملEvaluation and Comparison of Body Mass Index and Albumin Level in Patients with Active Tuberculosis and Latent Tuberculosis Infection
Introduction: Limited data are available on the relationship between nutritional status and tuberculosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the body mass index (BMI) and serum albumin level in patients with active tuberculosis (ATB) and latent tuberculosis (LTB). Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 17 patients newly diagnosed with pulmonary TB who we...
متن کاملThe Prevalence of Latent Tuberculosis Infection and Smear Positive Pulmonary Tuberculosis in People with Household Close Contact with Tuberculosis in North of Iran
One of the recommended strategies for preventing tuberculosis is to screen high-risk populations with respect to Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) infection. The aim of the present study was to investigate latent infection and active tuberculosis in people with close household contact. It was a cross-sectional descriptive, analytical study with the sample size of 668 people from homes with one in...
متن کاملIFN-γ and IL-2 Responses to Recombinant AlaDH against ESAT-6/CFP-10 Fusion Antigens in the Diagnosis of Latent versus Active Tuberculosis Infection
Background: Discriminating latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) from active TBI may be challenging. The objective of this study was to produce the recombinant L-alanine dehydrogenase (AlaDH) antigen and evaluate individuals with LTBI, those with active TBI, and uninfected individuals by enzyme-linked immunospot assay (ELISPOT) in order to distinguish LTBI from active TBI.Methods: This explorato...
